Smoke Alarm Upgrades
January 2022 is fast approaching which means the smoke alarm regulation changes are too! From 1 January 2022 photoelectric, interconnected smoke alarms must be installed on each storey and in all bedrooms and hallways of all rental properties, powered by mains power or non-removable 10-year lithium battery. If you’d like more information on the legislation changes, click HERE.
These upgrade requirements mean that if your rental property is not meeting smoke alarm compliance, it cannot be rented. With only a handful of months till the end of the year, the statistics tell us that there are not enough days left to get every property in Queensland up to compliance ahead of that deadline. This will cause prices to surge and availability to become limited.
The Sunshine Coast, in particular, has over 32,000 rental properties that will all require upgrades. Do not delay your upgrade as you may be stuck paying inflated prices and may not actually get the job completed on time.
